- Biol Prize in Puglia: the world event on the organic olive oil
This year, more than 370 the organic olive oils in competition coming from all over the world. International BIOL Prize 2009 will be organized together with training courses, conventions, workshop and tasting sessions. In short, the XIV edition of the International Biol Prize that will be held in Andria, from 20 to 24 April. This year a record of registrations coming from 18 countries: Italy, Saudi Arabia, Albania, Argentina, Australia, Chile, Croatia, Egypt, Greece, Israel, New Zeeland, Palestine, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey and two new entries: Jordan and Slovenia.
C.I.BI. has organized a programme full of interesting events: an international training course for extra virgin olive oil tasters followed by a stage on the Integrated Quality Managing Manual regarding organic product; inauguration day of the exhibition “An olive oil world” with a tasting laboratory in “San Francesco cloister”; an international Biolmed convention on “Competition and Cooperation among olive oil producer countries of the Mediterranean; opening day of the olive oil Biolmuseum “Terre di Traiano” (Spagnoletti’s Estate ) with a presentation of the gifts given by the Mediterranean producers, followed by a gala dinner ; technical stage for producers “An example of organic controlled chain”; Bilkids, jury made up of children.
First territorial pre-selections are taking place : they will be held in in Campania, Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Lazio, Molise, Puglia, Tuscany, Sardinia, Sicily, Umbria (together with Marche), Liguria and Greece. During Biol Prize , the international Jury Board will taste the finalists and will assign the Biol Prize awards: Biol – The winner. The best extra-virgin organic olive oil in the world; BiolPack – The best packaging; BiolBlended – The best blended;Biolkids – The prize assigned by children.
The Biol Prize is co-ordinated by the Bari Chamber of Commerce with the technical support of CiBi, the partnership of Ifoam and Coi, the support of the Municipality of Andria (Bari's province) and with the collaboration of several institutions of the sector such as AIAB Puglia, ICEA – International Certification Body - and Consortium Puglia Natura.
